Update on California’s Safer Consumer Products (CSCP) Regulations- Nonylphenol Ethoxylates, Methyl Methacrylate, and a Priority Product Work Plan
It has already been a busy quarter for the California Safer Consumer Products (CSCP) program, which is managed by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). Recent actions include the following:
- Laundry detergents containing nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) were named as a Priority Product (finalized) on October 1, 2024. To comply with this regulation, domestic and foreign manufacturers of laundry detergents (of any form containing NPEs) that sell their products in California must submit a Priority Product Notification (PPN) by December 2, 2024.
- The final version of the CSCP 2024-2026 Priority Product Work Plan was released on October 23, 2024. This document is available through the Priority Product Work Plan webpage, or through toXcel.
- A rulemaking effort to list nail products containing methyl methacrylate (MMA) as a Priority Product under DTSC was proposed on November 1, 2024. DTSC will accept public comments on the proposed rulemaking through December 16, 2024.
